Bridging Theory and Practice: Field Follow-up for Psychosocial Support in Thailand’s Deep South – The Module 3: Field Practicing Follow-up initiative, held on October 27, 2025, marks a critical phase in the project. This module transitions participants from classroom learning to the practical application of psychosocial support within the communities of Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat.

Core Competencies and Curriculum Design

The curriculum is designed to transform frontline practitioners into culturally sensitive practitioners capable of sustainable community intervention.

  • Designing Targeted Activities: Practitioners learn to create psychosocial promotion and prevention plans that are tailored to the specific needs of vulnerable groups.

  • Cultural and Religious Sensitivity: A core focus is placed on ensuring all interventions are grounded in local religious values and cultural nuances.

  • Safety and Decision-Making: Practitioners develop the skill to identify high-risk situations and make safe, timely decisions regarding referrals.

  • Professional Resilience: The module emphasizes long-term self-care for the practitioners themselves, fostering a supportive environment to prevent burnout.

Session Deliverables: From Field to Feedback

The training is conducted directly in the field across three key locations in the Deep South, ensuring that learning is context-specific.

1. Field Implementation and Reflection (13:00 – 17:00)

Practitioners engage in field-based activities to apply their skills in real-time. This is followed by a structured “Lesson Learned” (After Action Review) session to deconstruct their experiences.

2. Coaching and Mentoring (17:00 – 17:30)

The day concludes with intensive coaching and mentoring, featuring:

  • Assessment and Feedback: Expert instructors provide targeted evaluations of participant work to empower their practice.

  • Collaborative Networking: Lessons on strengthening community networks to ensure sustainable, multi-sectoral support.

  • Referral System: A deep dive into the local referral pathways to ensure seamless transitions between community support and specialized care.

Strategic Field Locations

The module is delivered by specialized teams at the heart of affected communities:

  • Pattani: Ban Inthanin School, Yarang District.

  • Yala: Women’s Empowerment Counseling Center, Yaha District.

  • Narathiwat: Ban Rotan Batu, Mueang District.

Assessment of Learning: The “Community Counselor Plan”

To verify the impact of the training, participants are assessed through a practical Community Counselor Action Plan.

This assessment requires practitioners to document:

  • Holistic Assessment: Evaluating the environment, history, and specific problems of the individual.

  • Goal Setting: Defining clear, measurable psychosocial outcomes for the person they are supporting.

Care Planning: Outlining the specific steps and referral links used to support the individual’s recovery.
